Climate of the Mediterranean -
- Southern and southwestern Australia, central Chile, coastal California, the Western Cape of South Africa, and the Mediterranean Basin are all considered to have a Mediterranean climate.
- The Mediterranean Basin, which gave the climate its name, is the largest area having a Mediterranean climate, while sections of the Mediterranean coast (particularly Egypt, Libya, and part of Tunisia) are too dry to be designated as such.
- The Mediterranean Sea contains more than half of the world's total Mediterranean-climate zones.
- Mediterranean climate zones can be found on the western side of continents between 31 and 40 degrees latitude north and south of the equator.
- Large seasonal temperature and rainfall contrasts, strong wind systems, severe precipitation, and Mediterranean cyclones are all hallmarks of the Mediterranean climate.
- Citrus fruit, cereals, and wine are all grown in abundance in the Mediterranean region.
- Fruit production in the Mediterranean is regarded as the "Orchards of the World."
- It is usually found on the western and southwest edges of the continents.
